You may appreciate the men in your life, but it sure isn’t always easy to think of great gift ideas for them! Whether it’s a father, brother, boyfriend or husband, men aren’t always easy. Maybe they’re uncommunicative about what they want, or you are the one who wants to surprise them with something unexpected. If you ever find yourself only weeks away from an occasion, and have only vague ideas for a present, then this article will definitely help spur your imagination!

One of the keys to a great gift is personalization. Make it obvious that you thought about their hobbies, personality or likes and dislikes. For example, say the man in your life is a golfer. Sure you could get him a golfer’s hat or a set of golf balls, but make sure they are personalized. For example, you could print something clever on the hat like “trained by Tiger Woods,” (if he’s a big fan) or put their initials on the golf balls. Keep this hint in mind whenever you’re getting a present. Remember to ask yourself, what can I do to make this gift even more special? They will certainly appreciate it! Now here are some ideas for the men in your life. Pay close attention, and you’ll be sure to have a hit every time!

Gifts for Fathers

Dad is a great guy, but he doesn’t always make gift giving easy! To make things simple for this example, let’s categorize dad as someone age 45 and up, because children rarely get fathers gifts without help, and so we are probably aiming at a slightly older crowd. Typically, we need to give dads gifts during the winter holidays and for his birthday. (We won’t worry about anniversaries because they typically also include mom, so those gifts would have to be aimed at them both). Your father may seem like the guy who has everything, so stick to giving him something either practical or cute and sentimental. For the practical, find out what he needs. Perhaps he needs a new pair of pajamas, socks, a toolbox, or a new set of golf clubs. Just be careful that you only get him an item you understand.

If you don’t know how to pick out a set of golf clubs, avoid them, because it could be very likely that you’d get the wrong brand or length. Instead get him a new set of golf balls or a golf hat and save yourself the inevitable frustration. Or, maybe you don’t want to get a gift that’s 100% practical. You could still get him those golf balls or hat, but add a fun twist. For example, you could get a teddy bear holding a miniature golf club, or even wearing the hat you just bought. In fact, a stuffed animal can be a great way to jazz up a present, or a great way to show that you know the men in your life well. One year my sister gave my dad a plush cat that had an uncanny resemblance to his favorite pet. He was so charmed by the gift that he brought it to his office so he could have his pal with him at work as well as home! Something that was so personalized and special definitely beat the wine opener set I had given him.

Gifts for Husbands and Boyfriends

We may know our significant others well, but sometimes finding the right gift for them can be a frustrating experience. After all, we try so hard to find the perfect gift, and anything less than that can make us feel like a failure. So when searching for boyfriends and husbands, remember the key rule, keep things personal! Maybe you want to take him out to dinner at his favorite restaurant. There’s nothing wrong with this idea, but you can certainly make it a little more exciting than just telling him what you’re doing. Get a gift card for the restaurant, and have a cute stuffed animal hold the card for a presentation that’s a lot more fun. If they have a favorite animal, get the plush representation for an even more thoughtful gift. For example, get them a plush dog, plush cat, or stuffed lion, if one of those is his favorite. Stuffed animals can also be a great way to jazz up a Valentine’s gift. Maybe you’ve planned a romantic evening together. A plush toy can be a great way to tell him in a cute and sexy way. For example, get a stuffed tiger and write the message on it “I’m waiting for you, Tiger,” and have the plush toy hold a nice piece of your lingerie.

Remember, the key to a great gift for men is personalization. Get them something that shows you really understand and support their hobbies and personality, and then think about what you can do to make it even more special. Use your imagination and you’ll both be thrilled with the result!

Christmas stockings are as as much a part of the holidays as candy canes, Santa Claus and Christmas trees. There are no written records to document the origins of Christmas stockings, but there are some legends associated with the tradition.

Many people have heard the story of how an act of kindness performed by Saint Nicholas led to the tradition of hanging Christmas stockings. According to this legend , a nobleman whose wife had died had become poor and unable to afford the dowry for his three daughters. Without a dowry, the girls would not be able to marry. On Christmas, Saint Nicholas saw the girls' stockings hanging by the fireplace and filled them with gold. In some versions , he throws the gold down the chimney.

Great Gifts For Sports Fans

Some say the re-telling of this story encouraged children to hang their stockings by the fireplace, hoping that they too might be the recipient of gifts from Saint Nicholas. This became one of the many tales that helps explain how Saint Nicholas became Santa Claus.

But there may be an even earlier origin of the Christmas stocking tradition.

Author Phyllis Siefker in her book, "Santa Claus, Last of the Wild Men: The Origins and Evolution of Saint Nicholas, Spanning 50,000 Years," traces the tradition back to the the Norse God Odin and the winter Yule festival . The author says that during the Yule festival, children would place their boots, filled with carrots, straw or sugar near the chimney for Odin's flying horse to eat. Odin would then reward those children for their kindness by leaving gifts or candy. This practice, she claims, survived in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands after the adoption of Christianity and later became associated with Saint Nicholas as a result of the process of Christianization.

Many cultures now have traditions that involve leaving stockings out to be filled with gifts at Christmas, although they vary by country . In some countries – like Italy and France – kids leave shoes instead of stockings, and in Italy, the gifts are left on January 6, the Epiphany . And since many modern homes don't have chimneys, in many families the tradition is now to use Christmas stocking holders.

But even though the origins of Christmas stocking history may never be confirmed , it's clear that hanging stockings on Christmas Eve is a custom is here to stay.

It's that time of the year again, the holidays are here! The nights become brighter as people put up their festive lights, and all the decorations really bring about the holiday cheer! We all get together with family and friends to really enjoy each others company with lots of wonderful food. It's a great time of year to make memories, and don’t forget the presents!

Gifts are great, but they also create some extra stress for a time of the year that can already pile it on. After all, we have to focus on cooking and entertaining friends and family on top of everything else. And then, we have to get the “right” gift for our family and friends, and sometimes coming up with an idea can be difficult. Especially when you only have a couple of weeks to figure out what you want to buy them. Luckily, whether you need a big gift, or just a small stocking stuffer, this article has a great idea for you: stuffed animals. This is a present that can be great for any age, especially around the holidays.

Stuffed Animals for Kids

Getting a plush toy for a child is something of a no brainer, after all, traditionally toys are for children. And stuffed animals in particular are great for kids. They give them something fun to play with, and let them learn about animals. They can even be a great substitute when mom and dad don’t want the child to have a real pet. A lot less mess, but still a lot of fun! Even though it’s the age of technology, stuffed animals will never go out of style, and they will certainly continue to help children jump start their imaginations.

Stuffed Animals for Teenagers

Teens are the consumer generation, and there a ton of items marketed to them, but this just gives you too many choices. Make things easier by giving a stuffed animal. There’s a lot more to plush toys nowadays then just the small, traditional teddy bear. For teens, one good idea is to get them a gigantic plush toy. These big stuffed animals can be around 5 feet tall, bigger than some people! These can be a particularly great gift for a teenage girl. Not only does the sheer size of the toy make it a “wow” gift, but it becomes a conversation starter when anyone else sees it. Just imagine her bringing a gigantic teddy bear to college, her dorm mates would want to ask about it and it could be a great icebreaker. Plus, something nearly her size could become a good friend, and keep her from being lonely. That way she’d have something soft to hug when she is upset. A gigantic stuffed animal can really be a fun, and unusual gift for a teenager. Consider one the next time you have to buy a present for someone in this age group.

Stuffed Animals for Adults

It may seem like toys are an inappropriate gift for an adult, but this is not the case at all. Many adults actually collect stuffed animals, so if you have someone who’s a collector it should make things easy. But even if they are not a collector, a stuffed animal can still be a great gift for an adult. Nowadays, there are many plush toys that are made to look realistic. This realism makes them a great item that can be used in decorating a home. It could give a little something extra to a living room or a home office, just for a few examples. For example, a natural appearing stuffed animal could give a home an exotic look. Or if the adult has an African theme for a room, a stuffed tiger could be the perfect addition. Or maybe they have a vacation home on the ocean, gift them with a plush dolphin to add some life and color to the décor.

So as you can see, stuffed animals are a great way to avoid holiday shopping headaches. They are appropriate for all ages, and lots of fun too! Plus, they are guaranteed to make everyone smile! Remember, when you’re stumped on your holiday gifts this season, consider a stuffed animal for those of all ages.

Around this time each year, I begin to plan out my strategy for Christmas. It’s always curious to me that I have to plan for a winter holiday during the brutal heat of summer, but such is life. Will I stay home or travel for the holidays? If I stay home, who will I invite? What will I cook? What activities will we do? How much will it cost, and on, and on? In this dreadful economy, I have to be particularly skillful when it comes to planning or I’ll wind up in a predicament that my household cannot afford.

Branders.com

It is at this mid-point of year that I have to start sweating the idea of how much money I’ll need for holiday festivities and gifts.  This usually means that I have to start saving money here and there, specifically for purchasing Christmas gifts. The last several years, I’ve become aware of offerings that help to cut the financial burden of gift purchasing. A good example is that there are many websites and blogs that list daily freebies samples, where you can sign up to receive free stuff and samples from various companies. I’ve been able to snag free t-shirts, razors, water bottles, coffee mugs and more, and all of it has definitely helped me out with stocking stuffers.

In addition, I've lessened my financial burden by entering to win sweepstakes online. You’d be surprised how many thousands of sweepstakes exist on the internet (probably too many to count!) I haven’t won a ton from those, but a gift pack from Victoria’s Secret and Dove soap set will come in handy for those coworkers that I dreaded spending money on, anyway. I’ve also found my Sunday newspaper’s coupon section to be incredibly helpful for saving money. With the grocery savings alone, I could save a few hundred dollars quite easily between now and Christmas.  I know a lot of people don’t like the time investment to clip and organizes coupons. They also don’t like the stares and hassle factor at the grocery store to redeem coupons, but if you need to save a few hundred dollars and you’ve got the time to do it, I can think of no easier way than clipping them.

Certainly, I spend more time planning my holiday spending strategy than most other people do, but it helps me keep my wits once the holidays actually arrive. It amazes me how many people seem blindsided by holiday expenses and it makes me want to ask, “Did you not think you would celebrate it this year?” The only good thing about holiday expenses is that they are predictable and when anything is predictable, it means you’ve got time to plan for it. Use your time wisely.
